Promoting Trauma-Informed Care: Starting with YOU!

This session will highlight the most central aspect of promoting trauma-informed care: workforce wellness. Because first of all, YOU DESERVE TO BE WELL! And secondly, if you aren't feeling well and supported, how can we possibly expect you to care for the little ones?!  We will start with self-care: how are you doing right now?  How can you build small practices into each day that will help? How can you keep YOURSELF a priority? Next, we will talk about ways that the workplace can support staff wellness -- because this is not only the responsibility of the individual.  How can we build the workplace into a supportive community that prioritizes self-care?  How can we continue to connect and nurture one another in this time of distancing?  This is a stressful time for us all -- let's not forget to take care of ourselves OR one another.

Promoting Trauma-Informed Care: Supporting Social-Emotional Learning

If you have participated in other workshops in this series, you will already have thought about the first two areas of trauma-informed care: workforce wellness and building a nurturing environment. Those foundational components set the stage for children to begin actively learning social-emotional skills and self-regulation. Social-emotional skills strongly predict later success in school and life – but it sure does take a lot of practice to be able to use them! This workshop will discuss ways that you incorporate social-emotional learning into classroom activities and practice skills each day. We will also talk about co-regulation – the ways that caregivers support young children in managing their feelings and using these skills during times of stress.  Supporting social-emotional learning is one of the best things you can do to build the brains, resilience, and futures of the children you teach!
